  • Cricket jargon - one of the ways in which a batsman can be given out. It occurs when a batsman, attempting a run, is out of his ground and a member of the fielding team breaks the wicket with the ball.

  • Hi, bilby. I was run out yesterday. My batting partner off-drove viciously and the bowler tried very hard to get out of the way but the ball hit him on the shoulder, for heaven's sake, and deflected down to dislodge the bails at my end, with me backing up for the run. Hah! How unlucky is that? Don't suppose you'll have much sympathy for me after today's T20 Final, though. :-)
